Hey everyone, it's Matt and I'm going to be LiveBlogging today's crucialthird game against hated rivals Florida State and Miami. If you recall last year's series, it ended controversially, with a bit of a dust-up at the end. Click here for the video and the story. Anyhoo, we're off. Manny Navarro says what others think...

by Matthew Bunch Email

It's the buzz of all plugged-in Hurricanes fans (I've heard about it from two friends already), but yesterday Manny Navarro set the record straight on recruiting and how it's handled by recruits, schools, fans and even the media. Long story short? We all need to stop caring so much:

But the truth is we've made this story much more than it needs to be. We've turned it into a yearlong odyssey. Blue-chip reporters from top-notch newspapers like the New York Times, magazines like Sports Illustrated and TV and radio stations have covered Bryce Brown nearly as much as the Alex Rodriguez steroid scandal. They've done it all because they want to be the first to tell you whether or not Bryce Brown's letter of intent was pulled by UM, or, if he may or may not make an official or unofficial visit to watch the Canes practice next week. Frankly, it's pathetic.

Do yourself a favor and leave this page. Read the entire post. Let it soak in the next time you're paying $9.99 to learn the inner thoughts of a 17-year old or refreshing Rivals.com every five minutes. It really brings us back down to Earth. The Miami Hurricane's Editorial Board did tackle this topic last year, but Navarro really covers everything. Give it a look.

SG Election Results LiveBlog Extravagannza!

by Matthew Bunch Email

Hey everyone! I'm at the Rathskeller for the announcement of SG's election results. Lionel Moise's "U Matter, U Decide, U Win" is the only officially registered ticket, but a write-in could surprise, especially with lower-than-expected turnout due to the presence of one ticket. Stick with me as the news breaks!

5:03 p.m.: It's really odd to see only one ticket's shirts at an SG announcement. It's a sea of yellow at the Rat.

5:06 p.m.: The music is still bumping, as the results are now six minutes late and counting. Everyone looks ready except for the elections committee.

5:14 p.m.: We're nearly 15 minutes on now, and still no word from the elections committee. Current SG president Brandon Gross is in the house.

5:19 p.m.: "U Matter, U Decide, U Win" sweeps all three spots. President-elect Lionel Moise had the smallest vote total of all the executive positions, getting less than 475 votes out of approximately 600 cast. More on the full election results to follow at http://www.TheMiamiHurricane.com/ Thanks for reading!

Quote of the millenium on A-Rod scandal...

From allCanes Blog:

"Only at Miami could a Major League Baseball steroid scandal hurt a program when the player in question didn't even attend the university."

Former UM linebacker Brandon Marti arrested

by Matthew Bunch Email

Former UM linebacker Brandon Marti was arrested early Wednesday morning on charges of battery and false imprisonment, both related to domestic violence.
The 18-year old was suspended during the 2008 season and was released by head coach Randy Shannon after the conclusion of the season. He did not see the playing field, but participated on the practice squad.
Marti came to UM from Gulliver Prep, after being an All-Dade selection in 2007.
