Recruiting, Basketball, Fashion

'Canes basketball won its exhibition easily last night, but more exciting than the end result was how the newbies looked.
Sophomore Vilanova transfer Malcolm Grantand true freshman Durand Scott looked unbelievably good. Scott actually spent a lot of time running the point. Both were accurate shooters, fantastic defenders (Durand Scott in particular was INCREDIBLE), solid ballhandlers, and strong drivers. I honestly think that our backcourt looked best with both of them on the floor at the same time, Scott running point and Grant doing his best Jack McClinton impersonation.
DeQuan Jones added a jump shot and was great crashing the boards and blocking shots. He looks like a sure starter at the 3.
Collins still looks the same: dominant shot-blocker, athletic rebounder, terrible hands. Hopefully he will get more consistent, but his trouble catching the ball in the post makes me worry, but if he becomes dominant, this team will make the tournament. That's how good he can be
Adrian Thomas and Cyrus McGowan both looked like the versatile players they were last year, hitting 3's, rebounding, and playing great defense.
True freshman Garrius Adams had a tough night shooting, but played good defense and made some incredible passes on fast breaks.
James Dews was shaky shooting as well, but was obviously a team leader and was always in the right place.
True freshman Donnavan Kirk had big-time size and athleticism(6'8, huge wingspan) and brought energy off the bench. Expect him to be this year's Jimmy Graham.
Redshirt freshman Reggie Johnson looked lean and in shape. He has the best hands of any of our big men, and is a fantastic passer out of the post. He will be essential against teams with 7 footers because he has the size (6'10 270) to give them trouble.
And last (but not least) Antoine Allen looked like a real backup point guard. He's physical on defense, a sure ballhandler, and hits open shots.
What's most exciting about our team is that we're set up to be absolutely dominant on defense. Collins absolutely OWNS the post on the defensive end, and all our our guards can just D up. I can't wait to see us against real competition. I think an eventual starting lineup of Collins, McGowan, Dequan, Grant, and Scott is going to give other teams fits because of their athleticism, speed, tenacity on defense, and 3 point shooting ability. And when you can bring a scorer like James Dews or a rebounder and big body like Julian Gamble off the bench, you've got a team

On the football recruiting front, earlier in the week we got a commitment from Keion Payne, a cornerback from the #1 team in the country. That makes this class of defensive backs look a lot like the 2008 class of receivers (Collier Johnson Byrd Thompkins Johnson Benjamin). We have Greg Dent, Raheam Buxton, Jeremy Davis Devont'a Davis, Payne, and Kacy Rodgers all currently committed. This will instantly shore up our safety and cornerback depth. You gotta hand it to Randy Shannon and the rest of the staff.
We addressed the need. And the depth problem at tight end (Jimmy and Epps leaving) was also dealt with. Andrew Tallman from out of state, and Belle Glade star Clive Walford (averaging over 20 yards per catch right now) are both in the fold for next year.

And on the fashion scene, Nike is about to come out with new Miami uniforms for the USF game. Nothing has been revealed except for our gloves.

Pretty awesome.

EDIT! Bumped up from the comments
The whole uniform looks like this

Those gloves are wild! I like them. Don't know if they'll help the team win, though.

Hey just wanted to share that for the Duke game there will be $20 lower levels endzones and the entire upper deck for 20 as well. Putting up a blog announcing it here also would be great, let's pack the house for the last home game of the year.
